How Does Agenda’s AAALAC Accreditation Benefit Our Clients?

Our commitment to animal welfare is paramount when supplying facility management services to the Life Sciences industry, which is why we’ve achieved full AAALAC Accreditation at our Agenda Discovery Park in Kent.

Agenda Life Sciences fully supports the reductions, refinement and replacement of the use of animals in research. Whilst animal research continues to be a necessary factor in the development of medical treatments and scientific understanding, ensuring the highest standard of care and welfare of animals is of utmost importance.

Achieving American Association for Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) means that Agenda exceed the standard legal requirements of animal welfare. This is because the care and welfare of animals at our facilities is at the forefront of everything we do.

What is AAALAC Accreditation?

The American Association for Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care program, otherwise known as the AAALAC accreditation, established in 1965, is a program that evaluates organisations that use animals in research and for educational purposes.

Ross Millard, Managing Director at Agenda Life Sciences, says:

“AAALAC accreditation is voluntary. Our success in being awarded this accreditation demonstrates our desire to go above and beyond what is required by the law which governs in-vivo research. It shows everyone that we are committed to the responsible use and excellent care of animals in medical research so we can deliver excellent science”

How does an AAALAC Accreditation benefit our clients?

Facilitating research is our priority, whether it’s through the management of your facility, our staffing provision or ensuring that your facility has the support of an experienced and highly skilled Named Veterinary Surgeon.

Qualifying for this accreditation demonstrates that Agenda Facility Management can offer services of excellence and reminds our clients of our commitment to upholding a high level of both care and quality for new and existing projects.

Laura Gilbey, Head of Facility Management, comments on the accreditation saying:

“When providing in-vivo facilities and services, we want our partners to be assured that our animal care and use programme is amongst the best in the world. Our AAALAC accreditation at Discovery Park shows the global biomedical research community that we work to internationally recognised best standards.”

Not only does the accreditation demonstrate a level of professionalism, but it also reassures our clients that we’re a reliable source for facility management services and gives them the confidence to entrust aspects of their project to Agenda Life Sciences’ team of highly skilled and experienced facility management experts.

On another note, the same level of trust and quality can be expected from our facilities and the resources that we’re capable of providing. With an approximately £3m investment, Agenda Discovery Park benefits from recent regeneration including major energy efficiencies and state-of-the-art facilities for in-vivo research, which supports the reasoning behind why we were awarded our AAALAC accreditation.

Toby Sanders, Director of Life Sciences, discusses our facilities and the award saying:

“This globally recognised accreditation for excellence in animal care, takes into account our facilities, policies, veterinary care, animal housing and management. In providing the best across all of these areas, we ensure scientific validity and our facility users benefit from reliable, robust scientific outcomes.”
